Ennis House

Here’s something interesting from the film/architecture nexus: in the current issue of Design Week, Alex Keane of Camouflage discusses his inspirations, namely Blade Runner and one of its locations – Frank Lloyd Wright’s Ennis House in Los Angeles. It’s an amazing Mayan-influenced building that uses a modular “textile blocks” to form its distinctive look.

I thought I was unfamiliar with this building, but a quick peruse of Wikipedia reveals that it’s been used in numerous films and and shows, including House On Haunted Hill and Buffy The Vampire Slayer, so I guess I have seen it before!

If, like me, you can’t get to LA in your lunch break, then a few minutes flicking through photos of Ennis House on Flickr is well worth it.

Or just watch Blade Runner agin. You know you want to.
